Mini conferences in 2017-2018
Students in the international section will follow a series of mini-conferences again in 2017-2018.
Kicking off with Laurent Vial from Virtual Expo in l'Estaque, recently awarded the label 'Great Place to Work', we looked at how to make Collège Monod a great place to study!
What is YOUR culture? Rebecca Hurst led our second mini-conference today with the 5e, 4e and 3e classes, getting them to grapple with what culture really means.

4e inter students visit Virtual Expo
At the start of June, the 4e inter were invited by Laurent Vial to visit Virtual Expo, a company in l'Estaque, Marseille. The students were warmly welcomed and given a fascinating insight into this successful online exhibition startup.
The workplace itself and the relaxed dress code all added to the attraction of asking for a placement next year in 3e! However, looking at the facts and figures involved, they soon realised that a lot of hard work goes into driving this business forward.
An interview with ludomag.com, at the Rencontres de l'Orme, explaining our latest project with the 4e class.

FIPAF International Theatre Festival in Grasse
Fun, dance, drama, games and some amazing performances by the 4e and 3e classes.

Mini conference cycle
A series of mini conferences are taking place in 2017 for the students in the International Section at Monod. Our first special guest speaker was Laurent Vial, of Virtual Expo in Marseille. A trip to interview employees at this company has been planned as a part of the career education programme. We are looking forward to hearing from others over the coming months.

2nd mini conference
Is speaking English perfectly really essential? Today, the students had an insight into cross-cultural communication with Yann Etesse in the second of our series of mini conferences. He shared some fun examples and got everyone solving a problem too big for even NASA to deal with! Working with different cultures is an everyday challenge for many of us to face up to.

3rd mini conference
Are schools all run using the same teaching methods? Alejandra Galvis came to speak to the International Section students.

4th mini conference
Why is design important? Gisele Orsolini came as part of our series of mini conferences to talk to the students about design graphic and art.

5th mini conference
Are statistics really useful? Philippe Chiarello and Nicolas Pascal showed the students some interesting ways to use data.

6th mini conference
Relocation: what do you have to think about when you are moving to another town, another city, or another country? Céline Thierry came for a mini conference with the international students to get them thinking about this and more.

Social Media Team
Social Media Team with Nicolas Pascal gets underway
Students from across the International Section have volunteered to create short videos in groups as a part of a social media team. The aim of this is to promote teamwork, creativity and learn new skills.

Dance-Theatre Festival
In April 2016, we were kindly invited by the team at Institut Fénelon in Grasse to participate in their annual dance-theatre festival (FIPAF). This festival is open to students from 4e to terminale and is run by the Etta Ermini Dance Theatre company, who are based in London. It was a great opportunity for our students to get into some really stretching workshops and have the chance to perform onstage. It was a privilege to see the Fénelon students perform their end of year show too. We were made to feel so welcome by everyone and we are already looking forward to next year!

Homeward Bound: visit from Deborah Pardo
Deborah Pardo, who is part of an exciting project promoting equality for women in leadership has been to visit the International Section to explain more about her upcoming trip to Antarctica. The students were able to participate in discussions about climate change and equality as well as learning more about Deborah's research into albatrosses.
The 4e students have worked on an international project about the migrants and refugees crisis across Europe with four other schools in the Netherlands, Norway, Germany and France. It has been an opportunity to get involved in current affairs and raise awareness through creating a magazine. Students have been undertaking research online, through polls, interviews with NGOs and government agencies and the novel: 'The Other Side of Truth' by Beverley Naidoo.

The Canterbury Tales
The 5e students have been travelling back in time 600 years to read Chaucer's classic work: 'The Canterbury Tales'. They have since created a successful campaign to promote the study of this medieval text in secondary schools!
The 6e students have created an informative magazine about the school as a part of their non-fiction project. Take a look!

Sherlock Holmes has competition!
The 3e have worked on a detective mystery game with our English language assistant, Nicole. Nicole is here for 7 months to help the students at school with their language skills. She is from Oregon, in the USA.
